aura mat™ brings the principles of Ayurveda into the practice surface itself. Our mats combine natural woven fibers, traditional Ayurvedic herbal textile processes, natural grip, six alignment bars, and the elemental framework of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

Ayurvastra is a traditional Ayurvedic textile practice in which natural fabrics are processed using herbs and botanical preparations. aura mat™ draws inspiration from this textile tradition and works with artisans in India to bring this ancient knowledge into modern yoga and meditation practice.

Ayurveda describes three primary doshas formed from the five elements: Vata is associated with Air + Ether, Pitta with Fire + Water, and Kapha with Earth + Water. aura mat™ is offered in all three.

Each aura mat™ uses a handwoven natural cotton and jute fiber practice surface with traditional Ayurvedic herbal dyeing and a natural rubber sap backing for grip.

Six raised woven alignment bars on each side of the mat provide tactile reference points for positioning the hands, feet and body. They are woven into the mat rather than printed onto its surface. This is sacred geometry and something the other brands claiming to be Ayurvedic, don’t really know about in our opinion. 

The woven textile surface provides natural texture beneath the hands and feet, while natural rubber sap on the underside helps the mat grip the floor. Like other textile practice surfaces, grip can vary depending on practice style and moisture.

Yes. aura mat™ was created as a surface for yoga, meditation, breathwork and contemplative practice.

Yes. Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle using natural soap and hang dry. Do not use bleach or harsh chemical detergents.

Yes. Unlike many conventional rolled yoga mats, aura mat™ is foldable, making it convenient for storage and travel.

aura mats™ are handcrafted in India using traditional textile processes. We traveled to India to document the people, knowledge and traditions behind these textiles in our documentary, Woven in Wisdom.

AURA has conducted exploratory Bio-Well measurements before and after practitioners used aura mat™. In these observations, changes in measured energy-field parameters were recorded, with some measurements showing increases of approximately 4-6 times the starting measurement.
